Dentists

Dr. Shamara Alexander

Dr. Alexander was born and raised on the West Coast of Newfoundland in the town of Stephenville.  She completed her Bachelor of Science Degree with a Major in Biochemistry at Memorial University of Newfoundland in 2013.  She then went to Dalhousie University in Halifax, NS where she graduated with her Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree in 2017.  Dr. Alexander enjoys all aspects of General Dentistry and is very dedicated to ensuring her patients feel comfortable and at ease throughout each and every dental appointment. In her spare time, Dr. Alexander loves spending time with her family and friends and loves spoiling her dog.  She spends a lot of time outdoors and staying active.  She is so thankful and excited to be home practicing Dentistry in her beautiful home province.  She is now accepting patients of all ages into her Family Practice.

Dr. Adrian Power

Dr. Adrian Power is a native of Bell Island.  He received his Bachelor of Science (Biology) from Memorial University of Newfoundland in 1972 and the obtained his Diploma of Pharmacy in 1976.  He worked as a pharmacist for 9 years in Newfoundland before going to dental school.  He graduated from Dalhousie University Dental School, Halifax, Nova Scotia in 1989 with the President’s Award and the Paediatric Prize for treatment of children.  Dr. Power and his wife Patricia returned to Newfoundland and settled in Conception Bay South.

 

Dr. Power has had surgical operation privileges at the Janeway Hospital with Eastern Health in St. John’s since graduating.

 

Dr. Power has completed many advanced continuing education training courses to be of better service to his patients.  He has an active membership in Newfoundland Dental Association, the Canadian Dental Association and World Dental Federation.

 

With hard work the practice has grown and in February of 2015 Dr. Power was able to open a new Kelligrews Dental Clinic building at 615 Conception Bay Highway in Conception Bay South.

 

Like his wife, Dr. Power has been an active member of the volunteering community especially in CBS.  He was a member of the Canadian Armed Forces Reservist with a Dental Platoon based in Halifax, Nova Scotia during the mid-1990’s with the rank of Captain.  He has served on the Newfoundland Dental Association Executive and other dental committees.  He has spent many hours with the CBS Monument of Honour Committee, the CBS 2016 Summer Games as Medical Director, the Knights of Columbus (Chair of the “Winter Coats for the Needy of CBS”), Rotary International, St. Edward’s Parish (Eucharistic Minister, Reader, Co-coordinator, Co-Chair of the Parish’s Fall Fair) and involved with Scouts Canada.

 

He has also actively been involved in the many areas of sports including Hockey and Soccer as minor and all-star coach, Queen Elizabeth Regional High School Hockey Team’s Head Coach, St. John’s Curling Club’s Executive and the 1996, 2000 and 2016 NL Summer Games.  He has devoted the last 10 years with introducing and promoting the sport of curling in Conception Bay South with the hope of one day having a CBS Community Curling Club.

Most recently, in January of 2018, Dr. Power participated in a humanitarian trip to Haiti to provide free dental services to local residents who were in need (some photos of this trip can be viewed in the camera roll on our front page).

Besides travel, in his leisure time Dr. Power enjoys many activities: curling, gardening, acrylic art painting, fishing, cottage time, family events, reading, cooking and sports.
